Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Hardcover, 384 Pages
Penguin Group Inc.
December 2010

Anna was looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend and a crush on the verge of becoming more. So she's less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Etienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Etienne has it all.... including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss.

First, I must say I want a guy like St. Clair. Awwwww.

Okay, this book is fueled with emotions. I found myself getting pissed at certain characters when they didn't do something I wanted them to do or did something stupid. I got giddy for Anna at the times when St. Clair was acting as if he didn't have a girlfriend. I really loved and got giddy when they were on Thanksgiving break (that's all you get for that part).

I loved how when the students went to places in Paris it was never the same place and if St. Clair was there you got a bit of a history lesson on the place. It made me feel as if I were on a tour in Paris, although I wasn't.

This has become my favorite book of 2011, so far. The year is far from over.

  1. When Anna leaves the States she leaves her best friend Bridgette behind, but something happens to her friend in the time she is gone. Seems she had a thing for Anna's crush Toph, and during Anna's time away, they start dating. When Anna is back home for Christmas break, she finds this out and feels horribly betrayed. So much so that she abandons her Atlanta friends for St. Clair, who is also with his ailing mother in San Francisco. Along the way, she finds that her Parisian friends were ones she thought of more than friends she had been with all her life.
Ms. Perkins has given us a wonderful book that has amazing scenery, hot boys to lust over, an amazing city as a backdrop and for me, I didn't want it to end! The dialog with the characters is all very real. There are a lot of other things that occur in the book, but everything is all carefully pulled back to the central characters of Anna, St. Clair and Meredith. Being set in Paris, the students do have the chance to go barhopping and cavort around, but Ms. Perkins keeps it all under control, with only two scenes(one with St. Clair, the other with Anna) getting really drunk, its a lot more tame than other YA novels recently.
